Berlin-Kurdistan feminist collab coming up!
Some exciting things are cooking in the cold and icy Berlin winter. Early December 2025, Stories from the Beauty Parlour met up with Dimah Al Jurostani, co-director of the newly established Kurdish Feminist organisation Justice Now from the Kurdish region in Iraq, who was in Germany on an ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) fellowship. Over some delicious Yemeni food, we shared about the crazy ride of building a feminist organisation and the constant, but increasing, need to fundraise for feminist causes.
Despite our realities being very different, we discovered even more similarities. Food became tea with a wish to both continue the conversation but also start an ongoing exchange and collaboration between Berlin and Sulemanya. And so we did.
In 2026, we will support each other on a journey in transnational feminist collaboration, with hopefully both an upcoming Kurdistan podcast episode and a fundraising even for Kurdish women's causes in Berlin. But even more important, an ongoing learning journey on how to develop feminist funds supporting international and local work. With cultural sensitivity, without white saviour complex, but with strong core of transnational feminist solidarity.
Since we started this conversation, the Kurdish question, but also the complex role of its women, have ended up on the agenda again with a tragic urgency. Our commitment to this cause feels more important than ever.
